Kata - Choreographed steps that simulate fighting multiple opponents.
Step by step Kata Instructions:
Chung-Gi - 1st Kata
*Yellow belts: Yellow belts are required to know up to #8 and then bow out
*Orange belts: Orange belts are required to know the entire Chung-Gi Kata
  1. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
2. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
3. Right turn 180 degrees – forward stance – low block with right hand
4. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
5. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
6. Step forward to with right foot forward stance – punch with right hand
7. Right turn 180 degrees – forward stance – low block with right hand
8. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand

9. Left turn 90 degrees – “T” stance – middle inside block with left hand
10. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
11. Right turn 180 degrees - “T” stance – middle inside block with right hand
12. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
13. Left turn 90 degrees – “T” stance – middle inside block with left hand
14. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
15. Right turn 180 degrees - “T” stance – middle inside block with right hand
16. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
17. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
18. Step back with right foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
19. Step back with left foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
20. Bring left foot up to right foot
21. Stand at attention with feet together and bow (Rei)
  Notes:
Lock back leg in all forward stances
Bend front knee in all forward stances
Look over shoulder before you turn
“T” stance – 70 percent of weight is on back leg
Tao-Sun - 2nd Kata
 
  1. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
2. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
3. Right turn 180 degrees – forward stance – low block with right hand
4. Slide right foot to left foot into a cat stance, hammer strike with right fist over left arm
5. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
6. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
7. Step forward with right foot to forward stance - punch with right hand
8. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
9. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
10. Take left foot behind you to the right, turn 270 degrees into a forward stance – low block with left hand
11. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
12. Right turn 180 degrees – forward stance – low block with right hand
13. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
14. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
15. Move left foot over to right to form a “T” stance - high block with left hand
16. Step forward with right foot into “T” stance – high block with right hand
17. Step forward with left foot into “T” stance – high block with left hand
18. Step forward with right foot into “T” stance – high block with right hand
19. Look over right shoulder – move left foot to turn 315 degrees into “T” stance – shuto block with left hand
20. Turn right 90 degrees – “T” stance with right foot – shuto block with right hand
21. Turn right 180 degrees – “T” stance with right foot – shuto block with right hand
22. Turn left 90 degrees – “T” stance with left foot – shuto block with left hand
23. Keep looking in corner and bring left foot to right – stand at attention – turn head to front and bow
Dan-Gun - 3rd Kata
 
  1. Turn left 90 degrees – “T” stance with left foot – shuto block with left hand
2. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
3. Turn right 180 degrees – “T” stance with right foot – shuto block with right hand
4. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
5. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
6. Step forward with right foot to forward stance - punch with right hand
7. Step forward with left foot to forward stance – punch with left hand
8. Step forward with right foot to forward stance – punch with right hand
9. Drop hands to right hip – turn left 270 degrees – “T” stance – double high block
10. Step forward with right foot into “T” stance – upper cut with right hand
11. Drop hands to left hip – turn right 180 degrees – “T” stance – double high block
12. Step forward with left foot into “T” stance – upper cut with left hand
13. Left turn 90 degrees – forward stance – low block with left hand
14. Move left foot over to right to form a “T” stance - high block with left hand
15. Step forward with right foot into “T” stance – high block with right hand
